Tickets

Ticket Main Screen (search screen)

Tickets start and return to a search screen. Individuals and vehicles can be searched simultaneously against Federal, State and local data. Searches normally respond within seconds. If your result has not returned from the state within those seconds, retry the search. The application will display the results in the tabbed result format.

If multiple results for either a driver or vehicle search are returned, click on the correct item to mark it as selected. When the "Issue Ticket" button is pressed, the ticket is populated with the detail of the selected item(s).

Warrants

With each search, a warrant check is performed. Each warrant must be viewed before a ticket can be issued.

Warrants are searched on various criteria and may return numerous individuals. Even a positive identification of an individual listed in the results is not sufficient grounds for execution of the warrant. Officers must confirm that a warrant is valid prior to executing it.

Issue Tickets

Tickets are started by choosing the ticket type and pressing "Issue Ticket". If the type of ticket you require is not available in the list, there are either no tickets of that type on the handheld. To obtain tickets perform a person/vehicle inquiry and tickets will download with the result.
If the ticket is related to a Crash, Incident/Memo or Arrest ticket, pick that report from the "Related Reports" drop down.

Entering Ticket Data

Once "Issue Ticket" has been pressed, the first ticket entry page will be displayed. Complete each field as needed based on the ticket requirements and advance to the next screen. If the ticket was related to another report the drop down at the top of the Driver and Vehicle pages will be populated with those reports records. Pick the item to populate the form from the related report.

Location

New locations can be entered or previously used locations can be picked from the drop down at the top of the Location page. Picking one of those locations will populate the location fields. Alternatively, each street field has an optional drop down to pick a street from previous tickets. If GPS is available on your device and has not populated by default, click the GPS button to obtain coordinates.

Violations

Speeding violations are entered by clicking on the Speeding checkbox and completing the appropriate fields. Other violations are available from the list below. Click on a violation to select or deselect it. For violations that can contain multiple counts a quantity field appears above the violation list to adjust the count.

Court Date

Click on a court date to select it for the ticket. The quantity column appearing to the right of the court date represents the total tickets assigned to that date from the handheld unit by the current user. Choose "Court Date Management" to add or delete court dates

Misc

An officer should enter their name and, if applicable, their partner’s name. Once the reporting officer’s name has been entered, it will default for subsequent tickets. Ticket time and date are set when the "Issue Ticket" button is pressed on the search form. Comments/Notes can be written in the space provided. These are not printed in the ticket and can be used to save reminder information about the situation of the ticket.

Multimedia

Voice notes can be recorded by pressing the "Record" button. Although written notes are recorded permanently on the department server, voice notes are only saved on the device.
Photos can be taken of the scene/vehicle etc. Any photos taken will automatically be posted to the server.
Note: an SD card is required for multimedia functions.

Printing

To print the ticket, first make sure that the Bluetooth printer is turned on and has ticket paper. In order to establish a connection, the printer should be within 30 feet of the handheld computer and have sufficient battery power. Also ensure that the Bluetooth radio on the handheld device is on and the devices are paired.

The print button on the toolbar will validate the ticket and show any items needing attention. If valid, a connection to the printer will be established and the ticket will print. In the event of an error (i.e. no paper, printer battery low, printer turned off, too far from printer, or Bluetooth radio turned off), correct the issue and choose the option to reprint the ticket. The ticket process completes with the uploading of the ticket to the server.

Voiding a Ticket

After a ticket is printed, select the "Void ticket" option to void it. Voiding a ticket requires an explanation for why the ticket was voided which should be entered in the textbox provided. A copy of the void ticket is permanently saved on the department server with the ticket number originally assigned to the ticket.

Correcting a Ticket

When an error is discovered on a ticket after being printed, it can be voided and replaced without losing the ticket information by choosing the "Make a correction" option. Complete the reason for the correction and press OK. The ticket will be presented for correction and will have a new ticket number.

Capturing a Signature

Depending upon your department defaults, a moving violation ticket or tow ticket will require a signature of the violator, tow operator and/or officer.

Ticket History

To view the local ticket history, either click on the "Submitted Items" link in the main page or, from the ticket vehicle/driver search screen, click on the find icon on the toolbar. Use the criteria to find the ticket you are looking for. For example, if you want to view the tickets for a particular court date, pick "Court Date" from the criteria option and pick the court date from the adjacent field and press the search icon. Then pick the ticket form the list below and press the "View Ticket" button. In addition to the ticket data, voice notes will be available if one was taken. If SD Card space has become an issue, photos may have been purged from the client and can be viewed from any PC connected to the Watson web reporting application.
