GVWR Examples

Example 1
The above example illustrates the difference in GVWR and GCWR as outlined in the definition. The attributes for the MMUCC element Commercial Motor Vehicle Configuration V28 would describe the above as a: Truck Pulling Trailer - V28 In this element it would be recorded as a GVWR of 10,001-26,000 lbs. and a GCWR of More than 26,000 lbs.
 
Example 2
The above example would qualify under the FMCSA guidelines by weight only if used in combination with a trailer of sufficient size to make its GCWR in excess of 10,000 lbs., as in the photo above. It would then only be included if owned and operated primarily for commercial purposes and not for personal use. If a qualifying vehicle, in this element it would be recorded as a GVWR of 10,000 lbs. or Less and a GCWR of 10,001-26,000 lbs.
